UNIT 4: CH 6: FINGERPRINTS
Your fingerprints develop in the womb. Everyone's fingerprints are different, including identical twins. The ridges that create our fingerprints are formed around the 10th week of gestation. It is the combination and pattern of the loops, whorls, and arches that investigators look for to identify individuals. More modern equipment has allowed for faster identification, though it is based on the skills that have been in use for hundreds of years.
